  Matsuyama
, t
he largest city in Shikoku,  has been selected 
  as the Best Cityscape Award in 2016 by the MLITT
  (The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport & Tourism).

  Very few Japanese, haiku poets or not, visit Matsuyama without
  remembering Shiki,  a preeminent son of Matsuyama, who made
  this town what is called the hometown of haiku Poem
  (5-7-5 syllable verse) .


           Dogo Onsen Hot Springs.
  Another nationwide attraction of Matsuyama is
  the fabled Dogo Onsen Hot Springs.
  Dogo Onsen Honkan Public bathhouse distinctive architecture
  can be fully experienced inside.
  Dogo Onsen, one of the oldest and best-known hot spring spas
  in Japan, was visited by several Emperors and Empresses,
  noblemen and nob
lewomen as early as the 5th century.

'(Dogo Onsen Honkan Public bath House)

         Matsuyama Castle,
  which the three-storied donjon and a subsidiary donjon fortified
  with several turrets and gates, form a typical fort castle
  of the 17th century.The original buildings are gone some except
  for Inui-mon Gate, some walls and ramparts.
  The main donjon houses a large collection of swords,
  armor, documents, works of art and calligraphy, and mementoes
  mainly of the lords of the castle.

             1  Start walking from the shrine entrance beside the ropeway station.              
             2  Take a ropeway lift.
             3  Get in a cable car. The charge for both is the same:

             Ishite-ji temple (N0.51th)
  Near Dogo Onsen is one of the most impressive of
  the 88 Sacred Places (usually called Fudasho) of Shikoku.
  It is also known for a gripping supernatural legend
  deeply imbued with the origin of the Shikoku pilgrimage.
  Ishite-ji temple offers lots of things to see,
  including the main gate (a national treasure) , the main hall,
  the three-storied pagoda
, the belfry, the Gomado hall
  (all important cultural properties), and the treasure house.
